As so it begins...

Our first RV Park was Greenbrae where we parked in order to finish clearing and cleaning our apartment. The park was filled up with tiny spaces barely large enough to fit the RV into, and expensive too boot. Very happy to leave Greenbrae!

Next we brought Patientlady (our motor home) to Sacramento, being anxious to settle the Social Security registration etc. Happily the park we stayed at, Sac-West, was fun and clean and very nice to stay. Tom came over to visit us and send us off on our journey.

Sacramento was hot! It was in the 90's while we were there.

Finally leaving California, we headed up to Brookings for a visit. We felt if was a good way to start out, by seeing family. Needless to say, we had a great time there. The Beachfront RV Park is right on the beach. Every night there were bonfires on the beach. Northern ocean breezes, sunny days, restful nights.

We left Brookings looking forward to finally starting our trip to see Shannon in Phoenix. A mixture of excitement and a bit of trepidation. We decided to go across to Susanville, then Reno, to hit 395 and go down the back of the Sierra Nevada's. We stopped at our first real Boondocking campsite in Lassen National Forest at a campground called Goumaz Campground. It was very beautiful and peaceful and well worth the 3 miles of dusty gravel road we traversed to reach it. Boondocking is a word that has come to mean staying somewhere for no cost and "dry camping"; no electricity, no water, no sewer hook up, and no Internet. The Bureau of Land Management land (BLM) is public, and most is free to use, and you can stay for up to 14 days. Other Boondocking spaces may be pull outs, parking lots, rest stops, etc.
Three miles of dusty road - I hope the site is worth this!

Most definitely worthwhile

Early to bed, early to rise we got back on the road and made it to Reno for lunch. Hoping to find someplace that can service our air conditioner before we get into the real desert. Unfortunately everyone is booked up, some until August!

We reached the high desert in the afternoon and stopped at a rest area for the night.

Good night everyone... see you tomorrow :)

Pretty pictures, and really nice campsite! I'm jealous. Make sure you have some good mosquito spray. I like Repel 100 personally.

Mosquito repellent would have been a good idea! Unfortunately we were without. I did have a citronella candle though, and that with the campfire smoke helped.
