Grand Canyon

As we packed up from Flagstaff, and Black Bart's RV Park, we made one stop in town at the Crazy Country Boys shop to have new tires put on the front of Patientlady. Our mechanic Robert gave us a tip to call a friend of his and we were more than satisfied with the service and the tires.

With new tires on we Finally hit the road again and headed toward the Grand Canyon. Larry was excited to see it again as we hadn't been there since the kids were quite young. It was right where we expected it to be! The ranger at the entrance gave us a senior pass good for one year that will let us into any National Park across the country. What a nice lady.

Larry's pretending to be an old man, leaning on his "stick", but actually he pinched a nerve in his hip during our rushed move from the apartment to the RV and really does need to use that stick for a bit. Hurry and get better Larry!

There is so much beauty this time of year out here. I couldn't stop looking at all the foliage.

And of course, those breathtaking views...

We saw smoke on the rim and as we were driving back to the village from our Desert View campsite we found out where the smoke was coming from. The fire department was in the middle of a controlled burn.

But my favorite expedition of the whole trip was visiting the Desert View Watchtower.

The Watchtower is a 70 foot high stone building located at Desert View on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. It was the last Mary- Coulter designed visitor concession structure and built in 1932.  The interior contains murals by Fred Kabotie.

I was entranced by the structure, the tiny fixed windows, the handrails wrapped with rawhide. A very cool place to visit.
